Thousands of School Supplies Donated to Students with Disabilities
Creating Brighter Futures for Students with Disabilities
According to the Government of Alberta, more than 14% of students in Alberta live with a disability. Statistics Canada research shows that almost 20% of students diagnosed with a disability don’t graduate high school.
To help students with disabilities thrive in the classroom, 4Seasons Transportation brought the Calgary community together in support of its second annual School Supply Drive from July to August 2022. Over the course of two months, local community members and organizations stepped up to donate essential resources students need to participate in school and reach their full potential.
The outpouring of generosity was incredible, with thousands of school supplies donated, including backpacks, notebooks, binders calculators and more. Organizations near and far joined in to support the cause with in-kind and monetary donations from Safety Vision, Old Navy, YW Calgary and the Khushi Foundation.
Thanks to the donations, students with disabilities who attend specialized programs at Calgary schools and non-profits including Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families, Ups and Downs Society, and New Heights School & Learning Services will receive free school supplies for the entire school year. For these students whose families couldn't otherwise provide them with the school supplies they need to succeed, these donations will remove barriers to successful learning.
"We are so grateful to 4Seasons Transportation for organizing a back to school drive and for choosing our school to receive some backpacks full of school supplies," says Katelyn Newfield, Assistant Principal, New Heights School & Learning Services. "We handed out these backpacks to some of our families and it was so heartwarming to see how excited and thankful they were to receive them. Thanks again, 4Seasons!"
Thank you, Calgary! Thanks to each of you and your incredible donations, students with disabilities will receive all the essential school supplies they need for a successful year. Here's to a successful 2022-2023 school year and creating brighter futures!
